That’s a nice way to put it.

According to my experience, you need a decent amount of history to warm up the weighting function. Otherwise, it can overfit.

If you have only a few hundred data points, I’d suggest sticking with a simple average.

Something like a change point can be problematic. Especially if the models in the ensemble become obsolete.
